West Indian Foundation Honors UConn's Dr. Marja Hurley

Dr. Marja Hurley of the UConn Health Center has won the West Indian Foundation Inc. 2009 Outstanding Community Service Award.

The West Indian Foundation Inc. has presented its 2009 Outstanding Community Service Award to Dr. Marja Hurley of the University of Connecticut Health Center.

Hurley is a professor of medicine, associate dean at the UConn School of Medicine, and director of the Health Center's Health Career Opportunity Programs. She was recognized for her contributions to the development of educational programs to benefit underrepresented students in American medical and dental education.

"Dr. Hurley has been an inspiration to many underrepresented young students in our community," says West Indian Foundation Inc. President Joy Chance-Blake. "She has been and continues to be a strong advocate for the advancement of medical and dental opportunities for our bright young talented students. We are very proud of her."

Hurley is a resident of Avon.
