Take Your Child to Work Day at UConn Health Center

Thursday, April 22, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

FARMINGTON, CONN. – UConn Health Center employees will show their children first hand what happens after they hear “I have to go to work.” Parents, aunts, uncles, friends and relatives have been invited to bring their young guests to “Take Your Child to Work Day” Thursday, April 22, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

“This is one of our favorite annual activities,” said Sandy Kressner, an education development specialist in Staff Development and Training. “Many of the children have no idea what goes on ‘at work.’ They’re usually pretty impressed.”

The day starts in the Food Court with a welcome breakfast for the children and sponsoring adults. They will be greeted by Peter J. Deckers, M.D., executive vice president of Health Affairs; Ann Smith, director of Staff Development and Training; and Ms. Kressner.

Activities include mural painting in the Food Court and a Health and Safety Information Fair in the Academic and Keller lobbies from 9:15 until noon. Staggered tours, also from 9:15 until noon, will visit Rehabilitation Services, Diagnostic Imaging, Video Communications and the Environmental Control Center, as well as to the UConn Health Center fire truck and the neo-natal transport van outside the Academic Entrance.

At about 12:15 the children will go to their host’s work area and then at 2:15 gather again in the Food Court for a “debriefing” with Hospital Director Steven Strongwater, M.D. This will be followed by an ice cream social for the hosts and their guests.
