National Women’s Check-Up Day Is May 9!

Farmington, Conn. – Celebrate Women, the women’s health membership program of the UConn Health Center, is offering a variety of educational programs in May, including health screenings for under-insured women as part of National Women’s Check-Up Day.

Here’s a look at the May schedule:

Managing Menopause: Nancy Kalagher, APRN and OB/GYN Nurse Practitioner with UConn Health Partners will discuss the symptoms of menopause and ways women can better manage their symptoms so menopause does not run their busy lives. Kalagher’s talk will be held on Thursday, May 5, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Human Resources Conference Room at UConn’s Mansfield Depot location.

National Women’s Check-Up Day: Health screenings, including breast exam, pap smear, melanoma screening and blood pressure check, are being offered to under-insured women. Appointments are necessary. Please call 860-679-8899 for eligibility. The screenings will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Hollfelder Center for Women’s Health at the UConn Health Center.

Financial Strategies for Women: Over 60 percent of women are more interested in financial planning and investing than they were five years ago. Women are a major force in the economy. Experts from Primerica will provide successful financial strategies that fit the busy lifestyle of today. This special presentation will be held on Thursday, May 12, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Onyiuke Dining Room at the UConn Health Center.

Karate for Women: This free introductory class is based on traditional Okinawan Shorin-Ryu Karate with an emphasis on the needs of women. Instructor Darryl Baleshiski, a 3rd degree black belt, will teach you how to defend yourself, how to reduce the chance of being attacked and how to maximize your own strengths. The class will be held Wednesday, May 25, from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Keller Auditorium at the UConn Health Center.

Celebrate Women will also continue the following classes and support groups:
