Karate Classes for Women: Instructor Darryl Baleshiski, a third-degree black belt, is offering monthly karate classes based on traditional Okinawan Shorin-Ryu Karate with an emphasis on the needs of women. Women will learn how to defend themselves, reduce the chance of being attacked and maximize their own strength. The $50 fee each month is payable to “Darryl’s Karate” and is due on the first Wednesday of the month.

Celebrate Girls Program – Skin Care to Build Self-Esteem: Dr. Jane Grant-Kels, Professor and Chair of the Department of Dermatology at the UConn Health Center, will speak about the importance of taking care of our skin. Girls and women are invited to receive styling tips, free samples and mini-makeovers from the L’Oreal experts to accentuate their best feature. Refreshments provided. The program will take place on Saturday, September 10, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. (talk at 9:45) at the L’Oreal Paris store at Westfarms Mall in Farmington.

Getting More out of Life: Cris Jacobs will lead an introductory talk on “core energetics,” a body-oriented psychology that helps you change the way you live your life so you feel more fulfilled and alive. The talk will take place on Monday, September 12, from 12 to 1 p.m. and on Wednesday, September 21, from 5 to 6 p.m. Both talks will be held in the Onyiuke Dining Room at the UConn Health Center.

Celebrate Women Annual Conference: Positive Energy – Turning Stress into Strength: Our keynote speaker is Dr. Judith Orloff, internationally renowned psychiatrist and health expert, who is known for her pioneering work in helping people build energy and lead vibrant lives. Her talk will be based on her best-seller, “Positive Energy: 10 Extraordinary Prescriptions for Transforming Fatigue, Stress & Fear into Vibrance, Strength & Love.” In addition to Dr. Orloff’s presentation, the $75 fee includes hors d’oeurves, dinner and a dessert buffet. The program will conclude with a book-signing.

Participate in activities that will enhance your senses and begin to develop the ability to experience the energy field and its dimensions. Learn how to observe a person’s aura and the energy field that surrounds their body. The workshop will be held on Thursday, September 29, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the Hollfelder Center for Women’s Health at the UConn Health Center.
