Internationally Recognized Urologist Honored by Health Center Board

FARMINGTON, CONN. – Peter Albertsen, M. D., professor and chief of urology in the Department of Surgery, is the recipient of the UConn Health Center Board of Directors Faculty Recognition Award.

A world renowned urologist and researcher, Dr. Albertsen has been at the Health Center for more than 18 years. He has obtained an international reputation for his work on prostate cancer and is the author of numerous publications.

“This award is one that celebrates and rewards demonstrated and universally recognized excellence,” said Claire Leonardi, Chair of the Board of Directors. “At a national level, Dr. Albertsen has played a pivotal role in our understanding and treatment of prostate cancer. The Board is both appreciative and proud of his accomplishments and continuing activities.”

“The urologists throughout the state of Connecticut have been extraordinarily helpful to allow my research to succeed,” said Dr. Albertsen. “I have been blessed with excellent support people and very intelligent collaborators.”

Dr. Albertsen is also highly regarded as a compassionate clinician and mentor for medical students interested in the field of Urology. As the director of the Urology Residency Program, he has developed a greatly respected and sought after graduate medical education program. “I have had the opportunity to care for some wonderful patients and to work with some superb medical students and residents,” said Dr. Albertsen.

As a recipient of the board’s recognition award, Albertsen was presented with a $10,000 prize. His name and photo are on display on a permanent plaque at the Health Center. The award was established in 2003 by the Board of Directors to recognize and celebrate excellence in faculty members.
