October 21: Cardiovascular Screenings in Unionville

Offered by the Pat and Jim Calhoun Cardiology Center

FARMINGTON, CONN. – Experts from the Pat and Jim Calhoun Cardiology Center at the University of Connecticut Health Center will offer cardiovascular screenings, including blood pressure readings and tests to help determine a person’s risk for stroke and peripheral vascular disease on Friday, October 21, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church on 148 Main Street in Unionville.

There is no charge for the blood pressure and stroke screenings and appointments are not necessary for either of these tests.

However, the peripheral vascular disease screening costs $20 and appointments are recommended. Call 860-679-7692. This test allows UConn cardiologists to compare blood pressure readings in the arm and the ankle, using a regular blood pressure cuff on the arm and a special ultrasonic device to evaluate blood flow in the leg. Participants will be asked to remove socks or stockings.

“These tests provide men and women with important information about their risk of cardiovascular disease,” said Bruce Liang, M.D., director of the Pat and Jim Calhoun Cardiology Center.
