Keeping Young Female Athletes in the Game

Jennifer Rizzotti Headlines Free Program at UConn Health Center for 5th to 8th Grade Girls

FARMINGTON, CONN. – The University of Connecticut Health Center’s New England Musculoskeletal Institute is offering a free injury prevention program for girls in grades five through eight Sunday, October 25.

Former UConn women’s basketball great and current University of Hartford women’s basketball coach Jennifer Rizzotti is the featured speaker. The program also will include presentations by UConn experts:

  • Dr. Thomas Trojian, UConn team physician and director of Health Center’s Injury Prevention and Sports Outreach programs, will discuss anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury prevention.
  • Dr. Robert A. Arciero, UConn team physician and chief of sports medicine at the Health Center, will discuss prevention and treatment of overuse injuries of the shoulder.
  • Nancy Rodriguez, professor of nutritional sciences and director of sports nutrition, will discuss proper nutrition for workouts.

The program starts at 1 p.m. with the speaking presentations in the Keller Auditorium in the main building, followed by a power walk to the Medical Arts and Research Building for special activities including a basketball throw, raffle, autographs and refreshments.

Directions and Parking: Entering the campus from Route 4, at the first stop sign, continue straight. Bear left at the fork and take your second right into the L lot. Park and walk up the hill to the main entrance. Take the elevator (to the right) or escalator (ahead) down one floor to the Keller Lobby. Signs will be posted.
