Season’s Last Massey Lecture to Revisit Early U.S. Medicine

Catherine L. Thompson, assistant professor in residence in the UConn History Department, presents “John Denison Hartshorn: A Colonial Apprentice in ‘Physick’ and Surgery” May 17 in the Low Learning Center.

Catherine L. Thompson, assistant professor in residence in the UConn Department of History, will give the last spring semester talk of the Robert U. Massey History of Medicine and Medical Humanities Lecture Series.

Thompson will present “Therapeutic Experience and Expectations in the Early U.S. Republic” Tuesday, May 17, at 7 p.m. in the Low Learning Center.

Thompson's article “John Denison Hartshorn: A Colonial Apprentice in ‘Physick’ and Surgery” appeared in the Fall 2010 Historical Journal of Massachusetts. Her doctoral dissertation was titled “Dr. Green is not God: Patient-physician relations in early America.”

The Robert U. Massey History of Medicine and Medical Humanities Lecture Series, organized by Ralph Arcari, assistant professor in the Department of Community Medicine and Health Care, is a series of talks presented monthly from October through May. The lectures are free and open to the public.
