Saluting Connecticut’s Medical Champions
Heroes selflessly go beyond the call of duty to act in the best interest of others, sometimes even in the face of danger. They do what they do, not for the glory or public recognition, but because they are passionate about helping others. As a result, they make the lives of others immeasurably better.
Such are the individuals and an organization being honored at the Hartford Business Journal's inaugural Health Care Heroes awards event.
One of our heroes raced to the World Trade Center on Sept. 11 to organize mental health counseling for first responders when others were fleeing New York City. Another traveled overseas on 13 different occasions, including going to Darfur to nurse starving children back to good health.
Our heroes have found new ways to treat ailing people, from developing a new device that prevents an abdominal aorta aneurysm, to discovering a better way to treat children in pain.
They have touched the lives of countless families, such as cheerfully treating patients stricken with the fatal Lou Gehrig’s disease, establishing a day care center for children with disabilities or behavioral problems, or by launching a mobile health care service for poor, migrant workers.
Please join us in saluting Connecticut’s 2006 Health Care Heroes, each epitomizing the word “hero” in every sense of the word:
