By Lisa Backus

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The city of New Britain and the University of Connecticut Health Center Police Department in Farmington will receive Federal Emergency Management Agency funding to purchase critical emergency response equipment, Sen. Chris Dodd and Joe Lieberman announced Friday.

New Britain will receive $8,800 while the health center police will receive $3,800. The money can be used to purchase emergency items such as thermal imaging and chemical, biological and radiological detection tools.

The grants were part of $113,650 given to emergency officials in six towns throughout the state by FEMA’s Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program.
