Dr. Lawrence G. Raisz just wants people to know there are serious research opportunities at the University of Connecticut Health Center, the kind that make a medical center great.
So it was no surprise that the longtime osteoporosis and bone-disease expert was a little shy Saturday when hundreds turned out to honor him at the facility's first "White Coat Gala" at the Hartford Marriott Downtown.
"I am a little embarrassed by all this attention," said Raisz, a member of the center's board of trustees who sneaked out of the VIP cocktail hour to share a champagne toast with family members who had flown in for the occasion. "My time at UConn, it has been a wonderful 36 years."
