Celebrate Women Programs: August 2004

Special Program for Polish Speaking Women Is August 28th

Farmington, Conn. – A special program for Polish speaking women about ovarian and breast cancers is one of the upcoming programs sponsored by Celebrate Women, a women’s health membership program of the University of Connecticut Health Center.

Ovarian and Breast Cancers: What you Need to Know: Assisted by Polish interpreters, John Nash, M.D., a gynecologic oncologist at the UConn Comprehensive Cancer Center and Judith Kulko, M.S.N., nurse director of clinical and translational research, will provide life-saving information about the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and recovery from both ovarian and breast cancers.

This first of its kind program will be held on Saturday, August 28, from noon to 3 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church on 158 Broad Street in New Britain. The event is free and lunch will be served. The program is made possible by generous sponsorship from the Julie Merle Epstein Cancer Fund which provides support and education to women who are at increased risk for developing ovarian cancer, as well as outreach and education efforts.

A Celebration of Women Through Poetry: Celebrate Women members can enjoy the culture and beauty of the Sunken Garden Poetry Series on the idyllic grounds of the Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington this summer at a discounted rate of $3 per program. The readings will be held every other Wednesday through August 25 and run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. To receive the discounted rate, members are reminded to bring their Celebrate Women key-tags.

The Y-ME Support Group meets every other Monday in the UConn Cancer Center conference room from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Women who have had breast cancer or are currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer are welcome to join.
