Art Meets Diversity Theme of Employee Exhibit January 16

FARMINGTON, Conn. – Scientists, nurses, librarians, physicians, accountants and others at the UConn Health Center will show off what they do in their off-hours at an special exhibition Friday, January 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Food Court at the University of Connecticut Health Center.

“To realize that the person you’ve been working with for ten years has a talent you never knew about makes a difference,” said Hartford resident Marc Simmons, accounting supervisor, who is exhibiting acrylic paintings. “It changes the dynamics between the two people and creates more camaraderie, which is good for the individuals and the institution as a whole.”

“Art: An Expression of Diversity” will feature the talents of about 30 Health Center staff who will exhibit a variety of talent, from sculptures and paintings, to stained glass and performance art, and much more.

“Art transcends culture, ethnicity, and religion. Art evokes a response, and I think shows us we are all more alike than we are different,” said Laurel Barrows, of Bristol, human resources officer, who will be displaying pen and ink, and string and ink artwork.

The exhibit is sponsored by the UConn Health Center Diversity Advisory Committee and UConnCares Council. Artists reside throughout the Greater Hartford area.
