FARMINGTON, CONN. – During American Diabetes Month, experts from the University of Connecticut Health Center will share new information during the November 18, Discovery Series program, “Know Your Numbers.”
As always, the Discovery Series is free and will begin at 7 p.m. in the Health Center’s Keller Auditorium. Registration is required. Please call 1-800-535-6232 or 860-679-7692. Before the program begins, free blood pressure screenings will be available from 6 to 6:30 p.m. in the Keller Lobby, thanks to Health Center nurses.
During the program, Health Center experts will look at a range of important numbers. Carl Malchoff, M.D., an endocrinologist, will talk about blood glucose numbers; Beatriz Tendler, M.D., of the Pat and Jim Calhoun Cardiology Center, will share new guidelines for optimal blood pressure numbers; David Silverman, M.D., also of the Pat and Jim Calhoun Cardiology Center will talk about cholesterol levels and Nancy Adams, M.D., of the division of nephrology, will present information about kidney counts.
All of the physicians will participate in a question and answer panel, which will be moderated by Dr. Malchoff. In addition, nutritionist Meredith Belden, R.D., diabetes educator Luriza Glynn R.N., and Megan Kelly, a Ph.D. candidate in health psychology, will participate on the panel.
“Every year, we strive to put together a thoughtful program that provides practical advice for people with diabetes,” explained Carolé Mensing, R.N., M.A., C.D.E., coordinator of diabetes education programs at the Health Center.
