Dr. Malini Iyer Joins UConn Health Center

General Surgeon with Expertise in Breast Health

FARMINGTON, CONN. – Malini Iyer, M.B.B.S., M.S., F.R.C.S., a general surgeon with expertise in breast health, has joined the University of Connecticut Health Center. Dr. Iyer sees patients at the Health Center’s John Dempsey Hospital and the Carole and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center. Along with her surgical responsibilities, she is an assistant professor of surgery with the UConn School of Medicine.

“I enjoy teaching and am excited to be part of UConn’s cancer center, which offers comprehensive care in an environment of active research,” Dr. Iyer said. Among her special interests are breast cancer and endocrine tumors.

Dr. Iyer completed medical and surgical training at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, as well as a fellowship at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, Scotland, before completing her surgical internship and residency at the UConn School of Medicine. In addition, Dr. Iyer completed a research fellowship in surgical oncology at the University of Pennsylvania.

During her many years of training, Dr. Iyer received numerous academic awards and accolades in India and the U.S., including the John MacArthur Award for best cancer paper presentation for the Connecticut Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. Before joining UConn Health Center, she was a surgeon in eastern Connecticut.

“Dr. Iyer is a respected surgeon with considerable experience. Her presence will enhance our clinical care as well as our teaching programs,” said Robert Kozol, chairman of the department of surgery at UConn Health Center.
