Celebrate Aging Programs: December 2005

FARMINGTON, CONN. – Celebrate Aging, a free membership program for men and women, age 40 and older, is designed to address the many issues of aging in a positive way and is offering these educational programs in December.

Diabetes: There are more than 18 million Americans who have diabetes. Of that number, five million are unaware they have the disease. Patrick Coll, M.D., director of Clinical Programs at the UConn Center on Aging and Division of Geriatric Medicine, will provide a general overview of the disease, explore prevention strategies, and review ways to control and manage diabetes. The lecture is free and open to the public and will be held on Thursday, December 8, from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at Covenant Village of Cromwell, 52 Missionary Road in Cromwell.

Hypertension: Nearly one in three adults has high blood pressure (hypertension), but because there are no symptoms, nearly one-third of these people don’t know they have it. Patrick Coll, M.D., director of Clinical Programs at the UConn Center on Aging and Division of Geriatric Medicine, will tell you how you can reduce your risk for heart attack and stroke with proper monitoring by a healthcare provider, and simple lifestyle changes. The talk will be held on Friday, December 2, from 11 a.m. to noon at the Seabury Retirement Community, 200 Seabury Drive in Bloomfield.

Registration for these programs is required as seating is limited. For more information or to register, call Celebrate Aging at 860-679-4900, toll free at 1-866-837-7737, or register by email at celebrateaging@uchc.edu.
