The Well Woman Screening and Prevention Program

New Program to Help Busy Women

FARMINGTON, CONN. – Recognizing that women sometimes put their families, spouses, careers, and other commitments before their own health care, the University of Connecticut Health Center has introduced the new Well Woman Screening and Prevention Program.

Through this program, women receive prompt medical attention as well as assistance finding a doctor for ongoing care.

“This is a way for women who don’t have an existing relationship with a physician to receive a thorough check-up and learn how to get back in the health care system for continuous care,” explained Phyllis Tarallo, FNP-C, a nurse practitioner and women’s health expert who coordinates the program. Ms. Tarallo trained and works closely with, Carolyn D. Runowicz, M.D., director of the Carole and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center at the UConn Health Center and President-Elect of the American Cancer Society.

Women who call for an appointment through the Well Woman Screening and Prevention Program are seen within days by Ms. Tarallo in the Charlotte Johnson Hollfelder Center for Women’s Health, conveniently located off the main Health Center lobby.

Appointments include a comprehensive history and physical exam as well as screenings, risk assessments and, if necessary, referrals for diagnostic tests such as mammography or blood work. If there’s a need to discuss test results, Ms. Tarallo sees patients for a brief follow-up visit. She also helps all patients find an internal medicine or ob/gyn physician for ongoing care.

“This program was designed for women who want to be seen quickly,” Ms. Tarallo said. “We also want to help women become empowered about their health and learn how to access important screening and prevention programs.”

To make an appointment, call 800-535-6232 or 860-679-7692.
