Shaping the Future: Take Our Daughters & Sons to Work® Day

UConn Health Center on Thursday, April 27

FARMINGTON, CONN. – Nearly two hundred children from across the state, ranging in age from 8 to 15, are expected to take part in this year’s “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day” at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington on Thursday, April 27, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The UConn Health Center is joining many other state and national organizations in support of Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. “Children are our most precious resources,” said Rosie Rodríguez, education and development specialist, who was instrumental in planning the day long event. “They will grow up to become the business and community leaders, doctors, scientists, educators and artists of tomorrow. Through this program, we can show girls and boys work opportunities they may not know exist,” added Rodriguez.

Some of the activities include tours of the diagnostic imaging area, where kids learn about X-rays and MRI scans, and pathology, where they look at tissue slides under the microscope. They can also participate in a mock broadcast from the Health Center’s TV studio and a group art project using supplies donated by LEGO.

The day consists of:

  • Welcome Breakfast
  • Health Center Tour
  • Children’s Information Fair
  • Group Art Project with LEGOS
  • Afternoon Ice Cream Social
