About the artist:
Accomplished artist Janet Sorokin’s career spans more than 25 years.
Her name appears in Who’s Who in American Art, Who’s Who
in the East, and Who’s Who of American Women, among other
publications and magazines.
After many years of doing large oil and acrylic paintings, Sorokin recently began creating collages made with torn papers painted with acrylics and enhanced with sand and other materials to add texture. These abstract images are translated into limited editions of archival prints, she explained, using fine rag paper and permanent inks to transform the colors and shapes of her collages into a whole new medium.
Sorokin’s works are in more than 100 private, corporate and public collections, and have been exhibited in solo and invitational shows, museums and galleries, in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Missouri, Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Florida and Tennessee.
She has won dozens of awards, many of which were first prizes from such art organizations as the National Arts Club in New York City, Connecticut Women Artists, Connecticut Watercolor Society, the National Association of Women Artists, the New Britain Museum of Art, Slater Memorial Museum, Artworks Gallery, Inc., to name a few.
Sorokin, who lives in West Hartford, attended Simmons College and studied with Paul Zimmerman at Hartford Art School/University of Hartford in Bloomfield, and also studied at Wesleyan University in Middletown and Trinity College in Hartford.
