Elegant “Imagine Ball” Raises $250,000 for Cutaneous Oncology Program at UConn Health Center

Coach Jim Calhoun, Former Aetna Chairman Dr. Jack Rowe and the Today Show’s Dr. Judith Reichman were Honored

FARMINGTON, CONN. – More than 300 people attended the inaugural “Imagine Ball” on Oct. 20, raising more than $250,000 to create a new cutaneous oncology program within the Carole and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Connecticut Health Center.

“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of so many men and women,” said Carolyn D. Runowicz, M.D., director of the Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center. “We are especially grateful to Carla Schwartz who chaired the event and all of the committee members who contributed greatly to the success of the gala,” she added.

The elegant ball was held at the Wadsworth Atheneum. During the evening, the cancer center honored three individuals who have helped to raise awareness about cancer. The honorees were Jim Calhoun, coach of the UConn men’s basketball program and a cancer survivor; Jack Rowe, M.D., former chairman and CEO of Aetna, Inc., and chairman of the University of Connecticut Board of Trustees; and Judith Reichman, M.D., a women’s health expert and physician correspondent for NBC’s Today show.

“Imagine … unmasking a world without cancer,” will be an annual event to support various programs within the Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center.
