Jim Calhoun Reveals His Secrets to Success

Hall of Fame Basketball Coach to Discuss Leadership Skills at Oct. 10 Discovery Series

FARMINGTON, CONN. – You don’t have to be a basketball fan to admire the success of Coach Jim Calhoun, the University of Connecticut Men’s basketball coach for 17 years. When he took command of the Huskies, the team had suffered through five straight losing seasons. Under his leadership, Calhoun has transformed a middling regional program into a national powerhouse with two NCAA championships. Coach Calhoun is known for producing not just great athletes but great human beings.

Calhoun will reveal the key principles that make him a successful leader, coach, family man and teacher during the Discovery Series on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Health Center’s Keller Auditorium. He will speak about his new book, A Passion to Lead: Seven Leadership Secrets for Success in Business, Sports, and Life. A book signing will follow the presentation. A portion of the proceeds from the book sale will benefit the Pat and Jim Calhoun Cardiology Center at the UConn Health Center.

Calhoun will discuss how you can turn any adversity into an advantage and set the right goals and game plan for every aspect of your life. “Talent determines what you ‘can’ do in life,” he writes in A Passion to Lead. “Motivation determines what you ‘decide’ to do. Attitude determines ‘how well’ you do it.”

The Discovery Series is free but registration is required by calling 800-535-6232.
