Celebrate Women Programs: January 2009
FARMINGTON, CONN. – Celebrate Women, the free women’s health membership program of the University of Connecticut Health Center, provides valuable health and wellness information to the community. A variety of programs are being offered in January.
Bleaching 101 – What’s Behind that White Smile: Tooth whitening is one of the most common forms of treatment that people use to improve their smiles. Jonathan Meiers, D.M.D., professor of reconstructive sciences, will clarify some of the mystery and misinformation and present the most common approaches to tooth whitening including self-applied toothpastes and strips, dentist supervised trays, and in-office applications. The talk will be held on Monday, January 12, noon to 1 p.m. in the Low Learning Center, UConn Health Center, 263 Farmington Ave., Farmington. Dental Implants and Bone Health: Elena Nazarova, D.M.D., assistant professor of reconstructive sciences, will discuss how dental implants preserve bone while at the same time restore function and esthetics. Topics will include how and where dental implants are used, health benefits, approximate costs, and an overview of the newest technologies available only at the UConn Health Center. The talk will be held Wednesday, January 21, 6 to 7 p.m. at the Southington Medical Office, 1131 West Street, Building 1.
Tai Chi for Health and Healing: Discover the health benefits and how relaxed you will feel with the deep breathing and slow movements of Tai Chi. Instructor Risa Brophy has training in medical Qigong – movements used to balance energy for disease prevention and healing. Classes will be held Mondays, 5 to 6 p.m. or 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. (January 12, 19, 26 and February 2) in Keller Auditorium, UConn Health Center, 263 Farmington Ave., Farmington. The fee is $39 for the four-week series or $12 per class. Those new to the series can try the first class without obligation.
