Dr. Joel Levine is One of America’s Top Doctors for Women
UConn Health Center Gastroenterologist and Colon Cancer Prevention Expert
FARMINGTON, CONN. – Joel Levine, M.D., a prominent gastroenterologist at the University of Connecticut Health Center who pioneered an innovative program aimed at colon cancer prevention, was recently named one of America’s Top Doctors for Women by Women’s Health magazine. Dr. Levine is among only five gastroenterologists in the Northeast selected for this honor.
Dr. Levine has seen patients at the UConn Health Center for more than two decades. In recent years, he devoted considerable energy to the creation of the Colon Cancer Prevention Program, part of the Carole and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center. Here, Dr. Levine provides personalized care, backed by sophisticated technologies, to help patients understand their risk of colon cancer. He works closely with each patient to create individualized, realistic prescriptions for prevention.
“I see myself as an ally with each patient. I share the most up-to-date information about cancer prevention strategies and help them incorporate these steps into their daily lives,” Dr. Levine said. “If detected late, colon cancer is still very difficult to treat. The good news is that prevention appears to be very possible – it is the new frontier in modern medicine care.”
Dr. Levine, a professor with the UConn School of Medicine, trained at the National Institutes of Health and Harvard Medical School. To make an appointment, call the Colon Cancer Prevention Program at 800-535-6232. More information is available at cancer.uchc.edu.
