Contemporary Realist Exhibits at UConn Health Center
What: “Morning Light” by Linda Tenukas
Where: Main and mezzanine lobbies, UConn Health Center, 263 Farmington Ave., Farmington
When: September 18 through November 20
About the artist:
A contemporary realist painter,
Linda Tenukas’ subject
matter is as diverse as daily life. A graduate of Ohio State
University, she was trained as a medical illustrator and later
became interested in photography. With expertise in the two artistic
venues, she moved on to the fine arts, painting equines in the
English style and still life subjects.
Borrowing from the techniques of Renaissance and Baroque masters, Tenukas uses a centuries-old technique called grisaille. Painting with oils on wood panel, she glazes and blends rich colors over an under-painted monochromatic base of black and white. This technique produces a luminescence that creates dramatic, translucent lighting effects.
Recently Tenukas was a semifinalist in American Artist Magazines
Annual Juried Competition and the winner of the Granby Community
Fund Award at Granby Land Trust’s Juried Art Show and Exhibition.
Her work was selected Best of Show at the Bristol Art League Open
Juried Show.
Tenukas has exhibited nationally at the prestigious American
Academy of Equine Art Annual Juried Exhibition art shows in
Lexington, Kentucky. She exhibited at the Connecticut Plein Air
Painters Exhibitions in Hartford and at the Gilded Edge Gallery
Equine Art Exhibit in Salem.
A graduate of Ohio State University, she creates original oil
paintings and commissioned works in her home studio in Berlin, Conn.
