Established Artist and Aspiring Artists at LeWitt Gallery
What: “A Contemporary Exploration” paintings by Shirley Mae Neu and “Kindergarten Masterpieces” by students from Norfeldt Elementary School
Where: Celeste LeWitt Gallery, Food Court, UConn Health Center, 263 Farmington Avenue, Farmington
When: April 16 through July 29, daily 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
About the Artists: Bloomfield resident Shirley Mae Neu earned her bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Queens College, N.Y., and her Art Education Certification from Central Connecticut State University in New Britain. She has held art educator positions in the West Hartford School system and was an art activities director at Renbrook School’s Summer Adventure Camp in West Hartford. Neu is a board member at the Gallery on the Green in Canton and a member of the West Hartford, Bloomfield, and Avon art leagues. Evidenced by her contemporary style and unique flair, Neu says her paintings reflect her passion for life, color and harmony.
Kindergarten students at West Hartford’s Eric G. Norfeldt School created their own masterful versions of famous paintings by artists such as DaVinci, Michelangelo, VanGogh, Warhol, O’Keeffe and various others. As part of a five-week course, the students study the artists’ lives and their works before painting their own masterpieces. The course was led by kindergarten teachers Julie Goldenthal, Lori Durocher, Betsy Jahne and Joan Greenfield with support from school principal Caryn Falvey.
