Veteran Hematologist, Medical Oncologist Joins UConn Health Center

FARMINGTON, CONN. – Dr. Jeffrey Wasser, a hematologist and medical oncologist, is now seeing patients at the Carole and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Connecticut Health Center.

Wasser has particular clinical expertise in immune thrombocytopenic purpura, a disorder that inhibits normal blood clotting and is associated with a low platelet count. He has been involved in practice guideline development and in clinical trials of new therapeutic agents for this disorder. He also has an interest in lung cancer, gastrointestinal malignancies and basal cell cancer of the skin. One of his roles at the UConn Health Center is that of medical director of the Cancer Clinical Trials Office.

Wasser, of Manchester, joins UConn from Manchester Memorial Hospital, where he was medical director of the Eastern Connecticut Health Network’s Cancer Clinical Services Department. He has spent 30 years in the practice of medical oncology and hematology in Connecticut, and was a founding partner of a private practice in Manchester and Hartford.

He earned his medical degree and completed his residency and fellowship training at Cornell University Medical College, known today as Weill Cornell Medical College. He is board certified in internal medicine, hematology and medical oncology.
